The government has announced over £500 million to expand its Plan for Jobs initiatives. The £3000 incentive payment for employers to recruit an apprentice has been extended to 31 January 2022. The Kickstart scheme is being extended to March 2022 and will be open to applications until 17 December 2021. Also extended is the Job Entry Targeted Support Scheme (JETS) to September 2022, which provides tailored support for people who have been unemployed for over three months. It also announced support for older workers and for those coming off of the furlough scheme, through its Job Finding Support (JFS) scheme. This article discusses the issue which some providers have flagged that some small employers are walking away from the apprenticeship incentive scheme due to the bureaucracy involved with the apprenticeship service process.
