The 16 to 19 study programme guidance for the 2020 to 2021 academic year has been published. This guide sets out the government’s policy on 16 to 19 study programmes, covering academic, technical and vocational study programmes, including traineeships and supported internships. It is designed to help providers understand their obligations and duties in relation to the provision of 16 to 19 study programmes in their institutions. The main changes in the guidance include relaxation of the required work placement duration within traineeships, due to the unprecedented impact of COVID-19 making it currently extremely difficult for providers to continue to organise and deliver work placements within traineeships. Another change is where the core aim of a student’s supported internship has not been met due to the impact of COVID-19, students will be able to complete their internship in the next academic year. T Levels are not covered by this guidance.
