On 9 September the government announced new measures to attempt to control COVID-19 and keep the number of infections down.  The updated Staying alert and safe guidance details these new measures as does the updated Coronavirus FAQ guidance. From Monday 14 September new rules will apply with regards to social distancing. The new guidance limits the number of people you can see socially to groups of 6, indoors or outdoors. The Prime Minister’s speech outlined that education and work settings are unaffected by this change. The Health & Social Care Secretary’s speech on new social distancing rules can be read here. Guidance documents have been updated with these changes, including the social distancing for young people, the safe use of multi-purpose community facilities and the working safely during COVID-19 set of guidance documents for various sectors.

The government is launching a public information campaign urging the public to continue to wash their hands, cover their face and make space to control infection rates to avoid a second peak.
