Ofsted is authorised under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (RIPA) 2000 to carry out directed surveillance in order to prevent or detect a crime. It has published its directed surveillance policy which sets out their legal powers, their authorisation process, the records they keep and how they will retain any evidence.
