Following the publication of the government’s one-year Spending Review, there have been a number of statements and comments from organisations with regard to its impact on skills and the economy:

  • The Association of Colleges statement comments on the positive aspect of the spending review’s focus on jobs and skills.
  • Comment from the Youth Employment UK focuses on the spending review’s impact on young people.
  • The National Education Union statement focuses on the effects that recent pay freeze announcements for public sector workers will have on education which hasn’t been addressed in the review.
  • A statement from the Chief Executive of Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership following the review focuses on the economic recovery of the region.
  • The Federation of Small Businesses statement comments on the missed opportunity of the review to help small business owners.
  • The Institute for Employment Studies commented on the news that the Shared Prosperity Fund, which will replace ESF after Brexit, will be just £200 million next year, peaking at around £1.5 billion a year which was barely half the size that had been expected.
