DfE Guidance on Extra Measures to Support Students in Summer 2021 Exams

The DfE has announced extra measures to support students ahead of next summer’s exams. It has said that “In recognition of the challenges faced by students this year, grades will be more generous, students will be given advance notice of some topic areas, and steps will be taken to ensure every student receives a grade, even if they miss a paper due to self-isolation or illness”. New guidance has been published to support the summer 2021 exams.

The Social Mobility Commission has welcomed the plans outlined for more generous grading in 2021 exams but points out that none of the measures address the impact that Covid will have on the most disadvantaged groups. Some sector comment on the government’s news can be read here.
