Robert Halfon, MP and Chair of the Education Select Committee, speaking at the Association of Employment and Learning Providers conference, has said that he believes the government should pay apprentice wages and fund their full cost of training for at least a year if they work for a small or medium-sized employer. He also commented that the apprenticeship incentive payment which is available for large companies as well as SMEs would have been better targeted at just smaller employers.
