MPs Call on Education Secretary to Rethink BTEC Plans & Lords Debate Amendments Around BTECs

The Education Secretary has been written to by a cross-party group of 118 MPs and Lords, urging the government to re-think the current plans to defund BTECs, warning that this would hit disadvantaged students the hardest. The letter supports the #ProtectStudentChoice campaign, a group of 21 organisations campaigning for the government to rethink plans outlined in the level 3 qualifications review. On 12 October the House of Lords introduced some amendments to the Skills and Post-16 Education Bill when it was debated. This article highlights some of the arguments from members of the Lords against removing funding from level 3 qualifications such as BTECs.
