Rishi Sunak Sets ‘Ambition’ to Study Maths until 18

Prime Minster Rishi Sunak has set an ‘ambition’ for all students to study some form of maths until the age of 18. Further details will need to be set out but the government has also said that they don’t intend to make maths A-level compulsory but are exploring existing routes such as the core maths qualification and T Levels, as well as “more innovative” choices. AoC Education Director Catherine Sezen has also responded, saying “To achieve the Prime Minister’s ambition for all young people to continue studying maths post-16 the sums must add up, with appropriate qualifications for students working at different levels, adequate staffing levels, and sustainable funding for colleges and sixth forms.” Click here for sector response.
