Former education committee member David Johnston has been appointed children’s minister after the previous children’s minister, Claire Coutinho was promoted. As children’s minister, Johnston will be responsible for the SEND reforms, which are set to be trialled in council areas before being tested across the country in the next few years, as well as children in care, mental health, alternative provision, behaviour and school attendance.
