Sir Martyn Oliver has set out his priorities, for if he becomes Ofsted chief inspector. He has pledged to undertake a “big listen” and wants to let senior inspectors work in schools and other education providers if he is approved and gets the role, which would begin on January 1. During a pre-appointment hearing led by parliament’s education committee, Oliver summarised his three main ambitions for the role.
- Listen to all of the services that Ofsted inspects.
- Ensure Ofsted inspections are conducted “by the system”.
- Look ‘holistically’ at how disadvantaged students were supported in all local authority areas.
