A new briefing highlights that nine million adults in England lack essential literacy or numeracy skills, emphasising the need for increased and targeted investment. The decline in adults improving these skills by over 60% in the past decade, coupled with a £1 billion reduction in government investment by 2025, poses challenges. The Learning and Work Institute’s analysis reveals significant regional disparities, ranging from 15% to 39% of adults lacking functional literacy or numeracy.
