Mental Health – DfE Report, Green Paper and SCTP Training

by | 0 comments

The Department for Education today (8 May) updated their “Supporting Mental Health in Schools and Colleges” survey and case studies with schools on activities to support pupils’ mental health and wellbeing. This research set out to understand what schools, colleges and other educational institutions in England currently do to promote positive mental health and wellbeing among all of their pupils, to identify and support pupils who might have particular mental health needs and to help pupils access specialist support where needed, and to explore their experiences of putting this provision into place.

Meanwhile the Government’s combined Education and Health and Social Care Committees in their joint report examining the Government’s Green Paper on Children and Young People’s Mental Health Provision, state that the paper is unambitious and leaves hundreds of thousands without proper care. There is also criticism of the lack of reference to apprentices.

Mental health of learners and providers’ ability to support them has been a feature of recent SCTP Pre-employment meetings leading to Mental Health Wellbeing Training being made available to SCTP members on the 12th June. Click on the link for details and booking.
