National provider network, AELP has published a new Briefing Paper, “Tackling the Growing Barriers to Traineeship Success”, which is full of useful statistics and feedback from the recent Traineeships event in Parliament, which was followed up by a meeting with Government officials to voice providers’ concerns. Ultimately Qualification Achievement Rates were raised as a key barrier to increased Traineeship participation by AELP members (as the aim of the programme is progression not achievement and limits the risks providers can take in engaging with the target cohort) and despite several years of lobbying, officials have yet to reverse this decision. AELP strongly believes that Traineeships should be removed from QAR, and whilst Government has good intentions in the form of wanting to promote Traineeships, it believes that its impact will be limited unless this barrier is immediately removed.
