The Minister for Civil Society, Baroness Barran, has confirmed that, as per the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme rules, furloughed charity workers cannot volunteer for their own organisations. Charity leaders had asked the government to grant voluntary sector staff an exemption to this rule. Barran said the rule was to prevent faudulent claims but also to protect individuals.
