For some educators, the rise of AI in education means potentially compromising teacher’s abilities to think independently, rendering traditional training obsolete. There are concerns that financially constrained training providers might replace human tutors with chatbots, potentially impacting learners’ mental health due to reduced human interaction. Currently, the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE) has issued only broad guidance on AI usage, leaving many providers wary of adoption. However, Jonathan Smith, co-founder of Veraxis, advocates for the integration of AI with appropriate policies to mitigate risks. “This isn’t the future; these tools are here now,” he asserts. Smith notes that many apprenticeship-related tasks, such as attendance tracking and scheduling, already incorporate AI, often unnoticed within learning management systems. Click here for more.
