Whilst economic inactivity has been largely falling since its late summer 2022 peak, it appears that this is feeding through into higher unemployment (i.e., seeking a job but not entering one) more so than it is into higher employment (i.e., entering work). There are also signs that short-term unemployment is starting to lead to longer-term unemployment. It also appears that this growth in longer-term unemployment is being driven in particular by younger people, who may not have the experience to move into higher skilled jobs straight away.
