Labour Market Statistics – September 2023

September’s edition of the labour market statistics from the Institute of Employment Studies paints a bad pictures for the market currently, with employment falling sharply, a similarly large rise in unemployment, and an uptick in economic inactivity. Further figures showed that the number of young people neither in employment nor full-time education increased by more than a quarter in the last year alone, signs that rising short-term unemployment is now feeding through into longer-term unemployment, and vacancies are falling by more than 20% over the last year.
