New Guidance on Supporting BME Apprentices

Unionlearn (established by the TUC to help unions open up learning opportunities for their members), has published a new 20-page guide on supporting Black & Minority Ethnic apprentices, both in terms of encouraging more recruitment and ensuring that the apprentices have a positive experience once on a programme.  The guide points out that research by the Learning and Work Institute found that although a proportionately higher proportion of apprenticeship applicants are BME, white applicants are more than twice as likely to secure an apprenticeship position.   The guide is aimed for use by union reps when negotiating with employers, but many of the recommendations could also form the basis of discussions between providers and employers.
