The government has announced a new target to move half a million people into jobs by the end of June, as part of a new ‘Way to Work’ campaign. This new announcement is targeted at people on Universal Credit, and aims to support people to move into work faster than previously. It will be introducing sanctions earlier to those who are not engaging with looking for work. It has stated that ‘ people who are capable of work will be expected to search more widely for available jobs from the fourth week of their claim, rather than from three months as is currently the case’. It has said that more support will be available from Work Coaches to help in this. This post from the IES addresses the Way to Work campaign and its likely effectiveness.
