The government has announced new national restrictions to try and stop the rapidly rising number of COVID-19 cases. The new restrictions come into place on Thursday 5 November and are planned to last until Wednesday 2 December. The new measures are requiring people to stay at home, except for specific purposes, preventing gathering with people you do not live with, except for specific purposes, and closing certain businesses and venues. The exemptions to these rules include leaving home for education or for work if you cannot work from home. Guidance on the restrictions is available here and the Prime Minister’s statement on the new rules can be read here. This article looks at the concerns that the second lockdown will bring a double-dip recession.
