Report Finds COVID-19 has Widened Gender Gap on STEM Career Choices

Engineering UK recently undertook a survey of young people about their attitudes and the degree to which their educational and career aspirations have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the key findings from the survey was that the pandemic has widened the gender gap on engineering and tech career choices. The findings report recommends that the government must ensure that young people have access to education, training, jobs and work placements in STEM and that the government and organisations involved in STEM and STEM inspiration must do more to highlight how a career in STEM – and particularly in engineering – contributes to improving society. The report and its key findings are available here.
