Government ministers announced on Monday plans to close the national traineeship programme for new starts from 1 August 2023, citing low uptake. From then, funding is to be diverted to the 16-19 study programme and adult education. It is unclear at present where this leaves providers that deliver Traineeships but haven’t currently got a Study Programme or AEB contract. Further comment on the announcement can be seen here and some additional information was forthcoming from Skills Minister Robert Halfon’s appearance in front of the Education Select Committee on Tuesday here. Any further news will be summarised in our next newsletter on January 3rd.
